The Code for Asheville brigade is a volunteer civic technology organization, one of the first of over 80 local chapters of Code for America. We mobilize a network of talented, civic-minded individuals who bring technology and data know-how to help communities and local governments work better. We facilitate data-driven conversations about community issues, advocate for transparency and access to open data, and help create tools to address community problems.
Projects that Code for Asheville members have spearheaded include collection & repair of used computers for internet access for the homeless individuals; the Buncombe County Reentry Resources Hub, a website for people reentering the community after incarceration; voting tools for the November 2016 election; data analyses of homeless arrests and local public housing demographics; NC Megaphone for contacting all NCGA representatives; and an open budget site for the City of Asheville in 2014 & 2015.
